Sonex is Back?

So glad they’re back, and Stephen seems to have a lot of vision for the future of the company, which is really good to see. A lot of good things in that interview to hear, really. Hopefully, they restart the transition program as well!

I got a reply back from tech@sonexaircraft.com related to parts that I still need for the HW tail. Their comment was the email addresses are back up yet still may change later with notification of changes to follow. They are passing my request to the warehouse. Will see how the warehouse responds. :+1:

Like a lot of folks here, I “drank the Kool-Aid” a long time ago. For a lot of us this has been an emotional roller coaster. I’m glad it’s over. I felt kind of silly last month as I watched the High Wing videos. Looking forward to a bright Sonex Aviation future!

Great interview on YouTube at Experimental Aviation Channel. It is all true. New name improved mission. Sonex Aviation.

I had placed an order for oops fittings a few hours after the original Sonex closing announcement just to see what would happen. I just received a new order confirmation email.

Am I the only one annoyed by the STOL Highwing AI picture on the new homepage of Sonex Aviation? Didn’t Mark always say this isn’t a STOL airplane and that the STOL crowd is already well served by many, many other kits?

There are at least a couple more of us. I hate ai crap in general.

yes… very put off by that!
I’ll give leeway as they get organized and get things set up in the new company… but, really… did we really need a Darth Vader HW with 35” balloons.

there are enough of real pictures of the HW that they don’t need an AI or artists rendition

I’m really glad Sonex is back. Their .html preserves this amusing previous version of the image inspired by “Talladega Nights”. The current image is much improved, but lacks the cougar. The geometry of the tail and main wing and cowl in the new image seem more like a Sonex.

Still having the tiny tailwheel is kind of funny.

I’m concerned about their commitment to supporting the A model builders.

I have run into several A model parts which have disappeared from the WEB store.

I tried using their online inquiry form. It failed several times. So I emailed them from my google account.

The new SonexAviation.com website doesn’t include anything about legacy products.

As the saying goes, The proof is in the pudding. I have a sizeable order in for parts for my build as I literally move forward on my fuselage.

You cant even look at the details of the Highwing so I wouldnt fret about the -A model yet. Not sure why they wouldnt just have a place holder home page while the workings of the website are developed out of the public space.

I thinking/hoping with how the wording is that it’s there to get in search page rankings. Hopefully they’re planning on doing a lot of refinement since a full set of specs and full costs, and how to purchase aren’t even available. A few links to the old website would really help. Otherwise it’s just going to look like ai slop which would be a turnoff to prospective customers with some knowledge.

I have seen the same thing. I hope they can support all A model and Aero Vee folks.

When did it become a bush plane (big fat wheels). I understood the HW to be a fast Cruiser - wont do much of that with ballon tyres. :smiling_face_with_horns:

Not to mention you cant just make a bush plane by putting big tires on it. The titanium rod gear isnt meant for that, the tail is too small for STOL speeds and the wing is meant for cruising and aerobatics, furthermore, if you want a Bush plane you want fabric covering not aluminum skin that dents. Bush tires kill probably 20 percent of your climb and 30 percent of your speed right off the bat! Not to mention the useful load loss.

This AI image isn’t giving me confidence the new owners understand any of this.
