Thank you everybody. This forum has been great getting ideas/issue fixes from and sharing the progress. After having prepared the build log and going through it with the DAR, I put together a list of the big moments for me:
-Start of project and first part scrapped; of many (Apr 2022)
-First part assembly completed (flap) (May 2022)
-First big part completed (LH wing) (Jan 2024 including not working on it much for 10 months)
-2nd wing complete Jul 2024
-Seeing the turtledeck shape for the first time (Aug 2024)
-Sitting on boards in the plane after the frame of the fwd fuselage was in place (Nov 2024)
-Getting the registration (Mar 2025)
-Rigging the wings in my basement (Apr 2025)
-Powering on the panel for the first time (May 2025)
-Installing the horizontal and vertical stabilizers to form the tail (Jun 2025)
-Installing the canopy to form the signature Sonex shape (Aug 2025)
-Installing the engine and canopy to complete the shape (Sep 2025)
-Dropping it on the gear (Sep 2025)
-Moving to the airport and installing the wings (Nov 2025)
-Burping the engine for the first time (Rotax oil check) (Mar 2026)
-Starting the engine (Apr 2026)
-Taxiing for the first time (and seeing the transponder work with Flight Aware)
The airworthiness threw a funny switch in my head to think of my Sonex as a flyable aircraft instead of a project to work on. There’s still some things to work on but it’s no longer an immediate need. Although I can fly, there’s a number of items to complete before first flight. What’s next is doing some additional ground testing. I’m excited to just get some more taxiing in since it’s fun having it move under it’s own power. I’ll continue posting some test progress and data here.
