Hi Wes! did you do scope compairsons of 3 ohm vs 3ohn+ballast resistor? and, how big ohmic wise resistor, .5, .75, 1.0 more? what wattage? I most likely will wire in a ballast resistor on my 3 ohm coils.

On our launch at the AVC race, we had high oil pressure. Was going over 100 psi, saw spikes to 116. We thought it was another VDO sender failure. After 15 minutes or so, it abruptly became normal. Saw this pattern over a few flights.
Step 1, I dropped the rear oil pressure control piston. It seemed a little sticky. I put a polished one back in and used a tool I made to clean up the bore. I did a ground run, no change.
Step 2, I put in my new spare VDO 360-04. It’s remotely mounted. No change.
Step 3, I’m going to check the piston and bore of the oil cooler bypass piston. Also I’ll remove the extra spring I put in there.
Step 4, I have a mechanical gauge coming tomorrow. The orphan Brauniger Alpha MFD is getting a little flaky, and I could be chasing a non-existent problem.
Done, no change.

I had posted that I had low oil pressure indicated on the idle stop. One other thing discovered in tonight’s testing - while the MFD was reading zero, the mechanical gauge was steady on 30 PSI or so. We are going to temporarily get a separate VDO gauge and accelerate the new panel plan. I’ll have to review Wes’s documentation on what I’ll need to add to the panel for the VeeCU.
There is a sealant that lock tight makes to seal up push rod tubes. It works well.
I’ve been using the spring loaded CB performance pushrod tubes. Mostly they seal pretty good, but there are sometimes problem children in the bunch of 8. Usually #3 for me. What I did on the last R&R of #3, I glued the conical seals on the ends with permatex #3 aviation form-a-gasket. Then all the conical parts, and the seal in the middle, were lubed with oil for installation. That lets the spring push the conical part of the seal tightly into the case/head/other pushrod half. #3 is now dry for me.
The great thing about removable pushrod tubes is you can R&R them with the heads on. I’ll never use the stock tubes again.
Edit - I looked up the post that you replied to and I used hylomar blue on the conical seals that go into the case and heads.
For those who have listened to me ramble the last 13 years on the forums, you may remember that I’ve had persistent high oil pressure problems. And recently I’ve had low oil pressure on the idle stop. With a dumb gauge, I now see 45 psi in cruise, and 10 when the engine is barely running.
