Really? Are they actually prohibited or discouraged, or just not mentioned as an alternative? I did mine with aluminum pops and they appear to be fine…but haven’t analyzed the stresses.

That’s what I remember from discussions on the old forum. Somebody had asked Sonex. I gave it the old “if I remember correctly” postfix because I’m not 100% sure.
