Taper pin philosophy

In the type of aircraft homebuilding I’m used to (RV’s), there is no use of taper pins, all is done with AN bolts.
Does anybody know what’s the philosophy behind using taper pins instead of bolts?
Thanks
Carlos

Do you mean that the use of a taper pin, instead of a bolt, is “to reduce the potential for a sloppy connection “?

They have been used with success for spar bolts also. The new old addition to the Sonex line of aircraft, the Sonerai. Uses 6 taper pins in lieu of bolts to hold the wings on.
