I need to replace the rod on my tail wheel. It’s 5/8” x 16”. What metal should be used?

Thank you. My kit was finished in 2003. The rod I pulled out was steel. I just don’t know what steel. Was that an old option prior to titanium?
Someone may have done something custom. The titanium works really well and is light.
Welcome! I had a titanium rod snap in two very very early in tedsting. Not the rods fault but mine! the tail wheel rod weldment inside the aft end, has a pipe that the titanium is secured into via a bolt. I didnt do a rerally good job of removing all slag from inside the tube for the rod. the rod fractured cleanly where the slag was impinging on it, and whammo, it broke while taxing out. big surprise.! so, just make sure there isnt any slag inside!
