Stator fail

I removed the stator to try to determine why my it stopped charging. I found a bolt had backed out and was rubbing the stator windings. It didn’t cut through but I’m questioning whether this will impact charging performance. Should I try it or just buy a new one?

Buy new. Those wires are covered in shellac for insulation. Most likely you have loop to loop shorts, and if you do get juice out of it there is going to be more resistance, and the wire may not handle the heat anymore.

I agree. Replace. Looks like you may have shorted turns and some significant copper missing. Even if you isolate the turns, the missing copper will cause it to run hot.

Yep, buy new! your in the seat if stuff goes bad!. would you show the bolt that came loose, and where it was located?

It was one of the 1/4-28 flywheel assembly flat head hex bolts. I have an SDS Electric ignition so I don’t have the trigger shaft installed. All 8 bolts are countersunk in the magnet ring. My only thought is that I must have missed the lock-tite.
