All, my Sonex has an icom radio mounted in the sub-panel under the primary panel. During my last runup, I attempted to talk with ground but was unable. I get clear incoming comms but just a blast of static on transmit. Any initial thoughts? I haven’t had time to do any more troubleshooting than this.
oh boy! well, devide the problem by 2, remove the head set, then transmitt. if still noise, remove the audio interface, and try again. if audio noise pickup, either by aural, or electronic, you should be able to find the direction to go for a fix. if neither of these elliminations dont show where the problem exists, it may well be the com radio itself, like the transmitter RF getting into the radios audio, and may have to have a shop look at it.. lastly, check the rear connector for failed ground connections on any pin in the audio system.
Receiving takes almost no power, but lots of power to transmit. Depending on antenna style, make sure the antenna is well grounded to the airframe. My cheesy antenna has a ground wire that is terminated on the airframe right by the antenna. Bad grounding there could do it. Or a bad coax.
