Question for knowing builders . . . I was about to get started mounting my rudder pedals on the B. Plans call for SNB-C02-08 mounting block made from Delrin or phenolic. The phenolic included is the wrong dimension, and I find neither the machined parts or raw Delrin from which to make the parts. The parts are not listed on my kit inventory. Would the parts for this assembly normally be included with my kit? The Delrin blocks for the flap actuator were.
The phenolic block in my kit is 3/4” thick (which is one dimension called for in the drawings). My plan was to cut four (two for each side) 1” x 3-1/2” strips and stack two of them - one on top of the other, drill the 3/16” holes from the top, thru both blocks, put AN3 bolts through them to hold them together, and then drill the 1” holes that the rudder pedal assembly rides on (e.g. through the side of the two stacked blocks).
I made mine a long time ago, but Dan’s description is pretty good. I drilled the holes for the AN3 bolts so I could clamp them together before I drilled the 1” holes. Make sure you mark them so they go back together the same way, unless you have CNC equipment to make it perfectly symmetrical.
Finally got out to the hangar yesterday and took a photo of my flap drive blocks. Procedure is cut the raw material blanks, mill them square and to final size, drilled the holes, inserted a steel pin of correct diameter then drilled the large hole with a forstner bit, labeled and marked them for assembly, and used a zip tie to temporally join them.
Checked the fit, nice and snug , no slop and just a little resistance to turning. Used 400 grit sandpaper to smooth the inside of the hole. Literally, just a few swipes and they fit like a glove and the flap tube turns freely.
Oh, thanks. I posted it on YouTube and headed out to run errands and didn’t get to post it here.
