I picked up the Bose noise canceling headset a few years ago. Did anyone find that this headset isn’t enough to reduce the noise? I’m flying behind the revmaster 2300 non turbo and I’m tri gear configuration.
Thank you

Steve,
You’ll no doubt get various opinions as what works for one may not be optimal for another.
I’m a Clarity Aloft guy. They are very quiet (quieter than an older set of Lightspeed ANRs that I had.) No batteries required and they work well in the “cozy” Sonex cockpit. Besides I get to wear my favorite old flying hat and no interference from my sunglasses:
I recently bought a used pair of David Clark passive headphones for my Young Eagle riders;
I used them several times to make sure they worked correctly and was reminded at how tin canny the Sonex can sound when rolling out. ![]()

Adam and I both have Clarity Aloft. Lots of happy CA people on the forum so I bought Adam a set as a graduation present. Once I determined they were safe I got a set for myself.
Sorry I can’t answer the original question.
I’ll throw another “plug” (pun intended) at Clarity Aloft. ![]()
I flew my transition training in a Sonex with a Jabiru 3300 with my Bose A20 headset and had no issues. It was actually a little quieter than I anticipated.
I use cable style temple sunglasses as I don’t like the feeling of the headset pushing on them but it may also create a little better seal. The only time I had a hard time hearing was once when I forgot to turn the ANC on.
Another +1 for Clarity Aloft. I replaced the foam tips with rubber triple flange tips ($8 for 6 pairs) and have never looked back. My Zulu 3’s only get used occasionally by passengers.

Are you sure the noise reduction is turning on? You should hear a noticeable difference when you turn them on and off.
I have used the Zulu ANR, the lightspeed wireless ANR which I love and also I have a new Bose ANR which is also great. All 3 do the job quite well. Maybe the Rotax is a bit quieter, but my dog sure reacts when I push the power up ![]()
I did exact same thing for tips. I believe they seal better and are easier to remove. Got mine from earphonesplus.com

I think I may have gotten the idea from you, Dale, from the old forum, maybe? I ordered from the same place. If that was you, thank you!! It has been a big improvement from the foam earbuds.
I’ll have to give them a try, thanks guys!
Yes, the noise canceling is definitely working but after my longer flights I feel like i have mild hum in my ears sleeping at night. I believe the headset is telling me something and I’m disappointed because Bose is a great model
Thank you
I have a similar reaction to my David Clarke ANA headset - prolonged use results in a short term (30 minutes?) post flight tenitius. ![]()
I have both Bose and Lightspeed Zulu headsets. They are both excellent but the Bose has poor passive noise reduction if not turned on or when the batteries die. If your Bose is not reducing the noise very significantly when turned on, it probably is not working correctly.
