Phase 1 Flight Testing - KBAK

I obtained airworthiness for my SonexB (Jabiru 3300, MGL Avionics) in mid-April with first flight May 24th. Between transition training, bad weather, and family commitments flight testing is going a bit slower than planned. Now fine tuning my AeroInjector ahead of further flight testing.

We now have 3 complete Sonex here in Columbus, 1 in construction, and another 4 in process or on order (Highwing) in the near area. We’ve declared Sonex Squadron status. Hopefully we can organize a fly-in here to Columbus IN.

I assume Bill B. is a member of the Mafia. How is his Waiex project? Congrats on first flight! Looks great!

Congrats on the first flight! I love the paint scheme.

Bill B is indeed a Mafia leader. He made me a mafia man. He is awaiting FAA inspection very soon after the 4th holidays. Then James and Bill will be fighting for Phase 1 airspace around KBAK, too cool!

Hey James! Congrats on making the completion section in Sport Aviation this issue! How is phase 1 going?

Hey Bryan thanks, I haven’t received my copy yet but have been told about it. Phase 1 is going good. The first few flights was like drinking from the proverbial fire hose. Then spent quite a bit of time chasing CHTs. Still not what I would like but the engine is still breaking in, just had a couple cyls that need more airflow and balance. Then had an internal SD card on my EFIS crash, had to pull it and send it for repair. But after getting it back in and the weather clearing I’ve have had 3 flights in the last 4 days and things feel like everything is coming together nicely. A total of 13:30 hrs now in flight testing and starting to roll. You know, typical airplane stuff hahaha
