NW Indiana Highwing builder

Hoping to get my tail kit and getting started soon…I have a deposit on quickbuild #37.

Still not decided on an engine… considering the Jabiru, Corvair and UL power…need any input from builders experiences with any of these engines.

Thanks for including me !!!

Congrats on the High Wing project!

I have a 3.0 Corvair conversion and am very pleased with the power & reliability. I have a few videos of my Model A Sonex flying on my tube channel if anyone wants some reference: Dale Andee - YouTube

I’ve contemplated building another plane for a few years and the High Wing makes doing so very compelling. Of course I’d use a Corvair conversion (William Wynne) but the biggest hurdle is finding an engine mount. Dan Weseman makes them for the older model A’s but has said he has no planes to build for the B or High Wing models.

FWIW,

Dale

Welcome! We have a lot of Sonex both flying and building in central and southern Indiana. I hope you can fly your nice 172 down and join us sometime.

I just subscribed. I thought I’d found every Sonex channel on YouTube … Not sure how I missed yours.

Looks like my dream of building an affordable highwing and flying for a fun retirement has been dashed !!! I feel bad for the folks at Sonex even if it looks as though I’ve lost my deposit. Kinda glad I didn’t actually get started but sure hope & pray somehow Sonex doesn’t just go away…

I think we all feel that way. It would be a real shame if the HW design never went anywhere. Seemed to fill a legitimate gap in GA. Hopefully there’s someone that picks up where Sonex left off.
