Thanks, the 6 year old is a typo, he is actually 11. Looking forward to writing the series. They will be spaced several weeks apart. I hope it convinces someone that has been dreaming about doing the same thing to not be on the sidelines as long as I was.

Chris, nice article. Keep ‘em coming.
I did have one question about a picture in your build log. It has to do with the elevator and where the hinge attaches, Looking at IMG_6155, it shows the hinge attached to the elevator. My question, is in the pic it looks like the top of the hinge is actually above the top front edge of the elevator, but looking at the drawing for the elevator (SHX-H05. section B–B) it shows the hinge attached 0.057” below the top of the elevator. Maybe it’s just the angle of the picture, but I thought I’d ask about it. I’ll say in advance, the work is not too hard, but for me, interpreting the drawings is the biggest challenge.

I hope you don’t mind asking about a build question. If you don’t want to do that for some reason, I understand. Just let me know.

Thanks, Matt McManus 918-728-4378

If the attachments worked I’ve got your IMG below and the section from the drawings too.

Matt, Forum is definitely for build questions! My hinge is indeed recessed below the top edge. Must just be the camera angle. I used one of my rulers as a shim under hinge with the flight control upside down to get the amount set. I actually just wrote on this topic for the next installment of the article. Find something that is really close to 1.45mm. I think what i used measured 1.55.

Dan, I’ve been watching your build videos very closely over the past year while waiting for my kit. Thanks, if you guys have any constructive critique, I’m all for it here.

Thanks Chris.

I think the steel rulers, that have a t-square and level that slides on them, are what was traditionally used. At least on the legacy kits.

Nice article! The snippets of the drawings make it look easy to follow along.

I appreciate you saying that. I’m always glad to hear that people are getting something from those videos. I feel like I’ve been very short on time to build lately and it’s driving me crazy, so I enjoy seeing what other people are doing too.
