Hello everyone. I have received several DMs about the files and whatnot. Rest assured I am not ignoring you. My work is simply very busy lately and I moved to another state this summer and I made the mistake of not closely tracking where the hard drive with the project wound up. It’s in a box somewhere that I haven’t unpacked. I’m very lazy at unpacking. But I’ll get there!
BTW, yes I did do this on the left side as well for visual symmetry and saw a lesser but still significant temp drop there, too.
Here are the project files, including the .stl files for direct 3D printing and the .blend if you need to edit them to fit your exact cowl variation (or just want to see how I did it).
I use Proton Drive, not Google Drive, but it works very similarly. Clicking the below link should take you to a site where you can download every file I used during the project.
I would ONLY print these in ASA or a similar UV-resistant and heat-resistant filament. If you’d like, I can print them in black ASA (like mine) and ship them to you if you pay the shipping costs. Just message me on these forums and we can arrange it.
BTW, they show zero signs of wear after almost a year of use.
I took Jester’s files, scaled them for the larger B model inlet opening and printed some prototypes. Can rivet in place to test, have a friend that will print in higher temp ASA and I can replace my prototypes. This winter will permanently bond, glass, fill & smooth then rewrap my cowl.
It appears that Sonex kept the basic cowl profile the same between the legacy and B model, but wider cowl and larger inlet. Just had to scale it to fit overall.
Awesome job Jester, they look great and saved me a bunch of work!!! Looks like I can increase inlet area by over 50% plus the scoops will grab slipstream air and guide it in. I had no room for a NACA vent.
Thanks for the post! Pretty cool to see my little experiment out there. I’ve printed two more sets that I’ll be putting in the mail for the others.
I just got put on another long work trip for a few weeks but once I get back home again I’m going to be trying out a more complete inlet replacement. Something like the attached image. I want it to use the same rear-top profile as the current one so I don’t have to change my rivet line. The big question is how small can I make the inlet before I can’t cool the heads enough.
Hi all,
Just a shout out to jesse , just received a left and right pair he made for me. really nice quality!
will cover tonite with rvinyl black graphite vinyl wrap.
thanks jesse!
For a reference point, the inlet diameter for the corvair nosebowl is 4.25" . Similar size and configuration as the Jab. I would expect similar cooling requirements.
