Can anyone point me to the section of a Sonex manual that recommends the #3 AeroInjector needle for the Jabiru 3300? I understand that it’s a regular recommendation but I’m just trying to understand where the reference to this is. Thanks!

I don’t believe the Sonex Manual makes a recommendation for a specific needle size. they just give a test procedure.
I followed the Jeff Shultz method of calibrating the AeroInjector and landed on the #3 needle for my Jabiru 3300. I know some have landed on the #2.5 needle.
Of course, Air Filter selection, Intake plumbing, probably even exhaust system can all effect this calibration - so, everyone should go through the entire procedure.
Make sure you are not using the air filter supplied by Sonex for the 3300 - it is too restrictive. Most guys are using one of the K&N filters.

Thanks for the explanation, Bill! Do you have a K&N part number to recommend. If I remember correctly, the K&N number given elsewhere in the instructions has been discontinued.

I believe you have a tailwheel aircraft - same as me. So, I used the K&N RU-1700 air filter. The Tricycle gear guys need to use a different solution because their engine mount would not accomodate this air filter.
I used the Sonex air filter end plates and modified the K&N to replace the stock Sonex air filter. The RU-1700 has a 30 degree adapter neck that must be removed - but then fits perfectly into the sonex end plates. Packaging into the engine mount is tight. Hope the pictures help.

Evan, I began flying with a #2.5 needle but have tried a #3 needle at times. Always return to the 2.5 needle for a better mixture throughout the rpm range, but it’ll run on either one.

Your call - but it might be easier to re-route your fuel line.
