So getting started with the High Wing. Going well but slow. Here is a link to my EAA Build Log.
Hope the link works as expected.

Made a little more progress. Completed the horizontal stabilizer and right elevator. I had a little trouble with the elevator. The 15/32” (suggested) cut was the problem. The idea is to make the elevator match the elevator horn which angles to the inside on the bottom of the horn/elevator. I attempted to start with the 15/32” cut, but that proved too large and I had to work the elevator by removing/sanding on the top edge of the elevator to get the horn to match the elevator. I think it worked out ok. See pic. That is such a critical angle on that part. I wish that the Sonex computer aided machines would have made that cut and sent the part with that angle already done.

Well done! Anybody can do it right the first time. It takes real skill to fix a screwup. Speaking from experience here…
Note that 15/32” is a “reference” measurement not a cut instruction on the plan. Just the angle of the root skin cut from leading edge to trailing edge helps produce some of that perceived angle. The root rib is actually pretty square.
Impressive recovery. Perhaps a good reason to cut the root before cutting final length.
For other builders reading this…This step came up when I picked up my tail kit and Mark gave the following advice. Cut the elevator skin root as a square cut top and bottom (the 4-3/8” trailing edge measurement on the plans) then fit the rib and mark the leading-edge angle that is remaining to be trimmed. The trimmed portion also tapers off as you go aft.
Hi Guys,
It’s exciting to see all the High Wing guys coming online. I hope to learn a lot from following along. I’m thinking I might pull a Bryan, except with my grandson rather that my son, and build an airplane with him. He’s only seven but he wants me to help him build a plane with LED lighting for his school science project. I’ve tried to explain that that is a bit ambitious, but he persists. Maybe something like this: High Performance RC Airplanes from used Plastic Bottles.

Great job,Matt! Very glad to see you here, and getting input from lots of others! Keep up the good work, and you will be flying before you realize it!!
So what the heck. With all the bad news, I finished my HW elevators today. Turned out well after my rough start overcutting the angle that matches to the lower side of the elevator horn. Not that I’ll ever be able to use them, but some satisfaction from completing the task. I used the 48” metal ruler to help insure the hinge line was straight.
Hi Matt, hang in there for a bit, and see what happens. The RV debalel was very concerning, but they did survice.
