Help putting the wings back on

When I picked up my Onex, the seller had already taken the wings off for trailering. Now it’s time to put them back on. I do not have the plans. I do have the bolts, washers, castle nuts, and new cotter pins.

Which way do the bolts go in, front to back or back to front?

What is the best way to hold the wings to get the holes lined up. I’ll have several friends available that day.

Does anyone use a drift pin to line up the holes and if so which one?

Thanks!

Easiest if you have a stand or table to lay the wing on at or near the proper height on a piece of styrofoam or padding. That way no one is getting tired holding the wing up but your helpers can still maneuver it the way you direct.

Bolt head towards the front and yes a drift pin is the easiest way to line up holes

I used a table of the proper height, with styrofome on top, so I could raise and lower the ends, to align the holes, without damaging the wing.

I’m stuck. I can’t get the wing past this point.

I’ve raised the wingtip up from almost level to about 45˚ and wiggled it every direction I can think of but I don’t want to break anything so I’m going to stop and ask for advice.

It feels like a very tight fit. Is the slot supposed to be greased? I cleaned it out before I started. Maybe I should try to clean it some more, but if so, what is the best technique? The spar sticking out from the outer wing is nice and clean but it is not super smooth. There is a little coarseness that is consistent over the entire piece.

All comments are welcome!

Thanks,
John

From the pictures it looks like it is sitting too high on your bench, it looks like it needs to go down about a 1/4 inch.I assume the rear spar is not the problem Have you tried moving the bench farther away so the wing will sit lower. Once you are close you can use the drift pin to bring it in slowly.
