Fuel tank vent line material

Is it absolutely necessary to use aluminum line for the vent? I am wondering if a good alternative way might be to use some sort of semi-rigid tubing (nylon or poly) just the same.

Also, the plans say to put it inside the gear leg fairing assuming to prevent pressurizing it or it being affected by vacuum thus causes changes to mixture so were not chasing these issues later on. I may consider putting some sort of breather on the end of the line, so no buggers get in there.

I’m not sure of the B model layout, but in the classic A model the vent line runs down the firewall. I made mine out of steel. If there is a fire the last thing I want to worry about is the fuel tank above my feet getting its vapors lit off and turning into an inferno. If the B model vent line is all behind the firewall that is a lot better.

Yeah it stays behind the firewall and down into the left gear leg fairing…which Im not sure is any better…hot brakes, fuel, fire. The anson check valve is a must here. Doesn’t eliminate vapors though.

My Model “C” (Cleanex) has aluminum brake line that runs down the firewall and out the bottom. I’d also recommend a safety vent hole (I put a small hole in the line just above the bottom of the cowling) incase a forward facing vent gets a bug in it or even if you should forget to remove the “remove before flight” cover on the fuel vent.
