EMPI head porting

I know what the internet says about a fool and his dremel, but no flow bench. But I decided to not let that stop me. I noticed on the two heads I’m working on that there is a ridge below the seats on all the ports. It’s basically on the walls where the intake and exhaust ports are adjacent. So I knocked it off. Exhaust port:

Intake port:

The ridge/bump was where you can see shiny aluminum. They are all gone now. Also where the exhaust port does a 90 degree turn, the inside corner was sharp. It’s got a radius on it now.

In my opinion, and memory from car racing, this is the right thing to do to lower turbulence of the charge. As I remember, we used to have the whole port area polished, and sized as larg as the casting would allow. It did help. Great photos and show and tell!!
