Assembly instructions

I’m helping a friend with his Xenos.
The kit came without plans which he has now received. Were just starting work on the fuselage…
Is there supposed to be a book of assembly instructions to supplement the plans, or do we just work off the plans??

Ron,
Unlike the RV’s, no assembly instructions. Just the plans. And us of course!

Ron, what we did is to take the drawing tree and mount it on the wall. You can basically start at the bottom of any “branch” of the tree, and just start working your way up. All of the things you learned in the RV world in terms of basic metalworking techniques will give you a jump start, and you’ll be turning out parts in no time.
As we finish everything on a drawing, we color in the block on the tree, and that lets us know where we are. When we get really bored with something, we just start at the bottom of something else.

How is the Xenos build going Paul? I would guess that by now you’re well into the fuselage!

Well, we’ve got the fuselage aft of the seat backs finished, and are fabbing parts for the sides and firewall as we have time. We have gotten involved in a second airplane project - a Dream Tundra - that has us splitting our build time, so the Xenos has to share our attention. Tail surfaces are all finished, so once we get forward fuselage together, we’ll have something sitting on gear!
The nice thing about the Xenos project is that we have no deadline, and we can build a part anytime we have fifteen minutes to run out to the shop. The Tundra is at a neighboring airpark, so we have to devote a few hours to go work on that.

Paul,
Years ago, during my tenure as EAA Chapter 533 president, the Dream Aircraft guys emailed me and asked if they could give their pitch at a chapter meeting. Sounded like fun to us. Besides our chapter members I invited some of my Schweizer co-workers too. Great presentation, nice guys, and we were all impressed with the airplane.
I am also a two project guy. My other project collects dust though until I finish the Waiex! Someday I will finish that hummelbird, if only to spite my friend who suggested putting chains on it and hanging it from the kid’s swingset.
