I’ve been flying my 912 powered Onex for about 2.5 years now, and it’s time to move on to something else. That something else is a pure toy, the Top Rudder Ruckus.
As much as I’d hate to take a perfectly functional plane apart, I have a feeling that will be a better financial move for me. I can used the engine, avionics, and much of the hardware on the Ruckus, so that’s most likely what will happen. I’d then end up selling the carcass which would still have an intact registration and airworthiness cert. It would end up making someone a nice cheap Onex if they want to source an Aerovee or some other engine.
I might try to sell it flying, but I’d need to get close to $30k to make it worthwhile, and I’d be surprise if that’s possible. The plane flies great, and is rock solid reliable, but it’s cosmetically challenged. There are parts that were never painted, and the part that was painted before I got the project wasn’t exactly professionally painted. Appearance sells, which is why I figure it’s unlikely. It will be a couple months before I’d have to decide, but I figured I’d throw it out here to see if there might be any interest.
