Alternator magnets

Does anyone have tips how to replace the magnets in the alternator ring? 4 of them gone bad and lost their magnetism.

Can you post a picture. I’m not familiar with the Aerovee charge system. My gut feeling is that they are likely glued in and require high heat and possibly something to break the magnets in half. On the otherhand Sonex tech may have the perfect solution

AlexZ,

Welcome to the forum. I think that is definitely a question for Sonex. I would imagine you press off the steel ring and then press out the magnets. But that’s just a guess.

@brs , here’s a picture with my nifty flywheel holding tool.

Thanks for posting the pic Bryan. Wow, looks like round magnets in blind holes! Hope there are holes behind the steel ring.

Not new to the Sonex forum. I was on the old one for years.

In the end it was easy. It didn’t took too much force to get the ring off.

6 magnets still strong, 5 intermediate, 1 allmost nothing.

Thanks for the picture AlexZ. Did you use a gear puller or something?

I have a small hydraulic press. It’s not that tight. So, you could do it with a hammer.

Two questions

1 : what’s the method of testing the magnets?

2: where did you find replacements?
