Looking for this part as well as the flywheel.

Any ideas.

Thanks

I’ve been looking, but I haven’t found a stator for the 30 amp alternator. It should be nearly trivial to fit a SMALLER alternator, say, 10 amp, there are lots of scooter PM alternators out there, you’ll need BOTH the stator and the matching PM magnet cup. The larger Harley-Davidson 30+ alternators are THICKER than the Sonex/Aerovee piece, and you’d have to space the accessory plate out from the engine, making the whole engine longer, and screwing up your cowling fit on an existing plane.

The Sonex stator is potted, something I’ve not seen on other PM alternators. I guess the idea is to keep the windings from accumulating dust and oil, which saps the insulation resistance and eventually burns out the windings.

The flywheel is ultra specific. I’ve been looking for the flywheel magnets needed for the stock primary ignition, with no luck. The ring gear is probably a bought-in piece from a car, snowmobile, outboard motor, who knows, but the aluminum flywheel plate itself and steel center piece are custom.

Grainger has a bunch of magnets that look similar. I have my original magnetron magnet stuck to the filing cabinet in the hangar and I’m going to measure it to see if I can find a match.

The Sonex stator is potted

They were potted for a long time. But AIUI they changed to an un-potted version for the last couple of years? Manuals still show the potted version but I think the web store was showing an unpotted unit recently.

Bryan, you might want to check out these guys.

I have flywheels and associated parts available. I am the original supplier of these.

I received and installed a 20amp upgrade kit last year and the stator was unpotted.

According to a Facebook comment by Kery Forres on April 12, 2026 the AeroVee Stator is based on the one for the Jabiru 3300 engine, and that it is likely you could use a Jab3300 stator on an AeroVee (but you’ll want to check everything carefully for clearance - both the mounting lugs and the stator coils).

I looked up the Jabiru Engine Parts/Overhaul manual and the stator appears to be part number 4A753A0D-3

Please do your own research/confirmation before purchasing or attempting to use this part, though!

I think a burned out stator could be easily rewound. The hard part would be removing the potting, but maybe you could burn it off.

Update: I have a Jab 3300 stator on-order from Arion and will report my findings once I have it.

How can I reach you to order parts?

You might try messaging him on the forum. I know when I get a message, I get an email from the forum about it.

How do you recieve orders?

Sorry guys if I am a little redundant, this is my first forum.
