I will be in town working at the life flight base in Seymour that week so I should be able to make it!
Not making any promises but I’d like to make this event if all the parts line up to do so.
Thinking about it I’d like to try and get some specifics from others that would be helpful, especially if you are planning to attend.

If you are coming, are you going to camp? I’m really considering this option as I would arrive on Friday afternoon and depart early Sunday morning. Camping might be great if the weather is good and others are planning to camp.

Staying in a hotel in town and having a rental car is another option but my experience teaches me that time away from the airport is the time when great stuff happens & the best hangar talk occurs.

Where on the airport will the gathering/camping be? The south apron is where the tower and fuel are but the northwest apron looks to have a lot more space available.

Does the FBO have basic essentials i.e. water & coffee? I might live without water but coffee is required.

Anyone else looking for a Friday arrival? If so we could head into town a have a meal together.

If I go solo, or with Adam, we will probably fly up and back Saturday. If I take Matthew, I’ll try and stay overnight at a hotel. We don’t have enough payload for camping 2-up.
I have a number of tents of various sizes and also access to a number of 4 man tents Bryan if anything like that would help. If you look for hotels look up at the Edinburgh IN area. That’s just north of Columbus and maybe 15 mins from the airport. We can help get folks without cars around.

Airplane parking both grass and ramp with hard tie-down points are available at the southeast end near the T hangars. Camping will be in the grass area just to the east of the T hangars. There is a pilots lounge and restroom/shower available near the T hangars. There are also a number of other toilets available. We also have a number of shelter areas for bad weather. Also at the terminal there is a restaurant for breakfast or lunch’s.
We will have access to a number of bicycles for helping get around the airport, restaurant, and restrooms. The airport has both FBO and self-serve fuel. We will have tables, chairs, grills, solo stoves, Kuerig, and other refreshments on hand. The plan is to have a cookout on Saturday evening and a pancake breakfast Sunday morning. Will have tables and chairs available. Folding chairs can double for use around the solo stove. We have a couple of brew pubs, one close to the airport if someone needs something a little different.
For anyone showing up early on Friday we will have access to the camping and we’ll put you to work to help with setup and socializing. Maybe even a flight or two in the local area that evening.

What you posted seems to have answered my questions. Part of my reason for asking in the forum is that others would have the answers and it might also help spark more questions and enthusiasm for this event. I appreciate the number and will use it if needed.
I recall the old American Sonex Association Fly-ins and how they were quite integral, I believe, to the huge growth that Sonex experienced at that time. Hopefully with the new Sonex Aviation restart, the new Highwing, and the Columbus Gathering a new fire will be lit that displays just how wonderful these little planes are and prove that the phrase; “Best Performance Per Dollar.” is not just an add campaign but a fact.
I have no idea if all will align so I can attend the gathering but I’m making plans …

Dale, looking at your profile is says you are located in Carolina? Which/where? I use to live in Summerville SC and have been doing some route planning to fly there this fall…
James, I used to live in Summerville but moved a bit north over ten years ago because the traffic there is overwhelming. I hangar the plane at one of two airports (6J2 or 5J5) but most of my time is spent at St. George airport.
My initial planning is to fly around, instead of over, the mountains. I did that going to Crossville years ago. The valley is beautiful with the Tennessee River and the Cumberland Plateau … especially during the changing of the leaves!

We moved out of Summerville in 2001. Was there for 5 years for work. Back then it was a beautiful sleepy village. They hadn’t finished the Berlin G Meyers bypass. I drove 61 past the plantations to get to and from work.
Visited quite a number of times to see friends and go fishing. Watched the place explode and go crazy…. Too bad, lost its charm
If you do make it GREAT, will review route planning with you. I was also planning to fly a south route then east near Atlanta.
