I’m Mitch from northern Illinois (Lindenhurst area, about halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee). I purchased the tail kit Aug 5, so I am a few weeks out! I’m converting one bay of my garage into a proper workshop so I can start as soon as it arrives.
I’m coming into this as a first time builder, with a background in industrial/facility maintenance, so I am comfortable with using all of the tools required, measuring twice, and documentation. I plan to share the build here, EAA Builders Log, and possibly put together a Youtube series as I go - partially to keep myself accountable, and partly because I know how much I learned from other builders videos so far.
I am looking forward to learning from y’all who have already been down this road!

I’m a retired manufacturing engineer. A first time builder, had a blast. Best advice I can give; do something every day, build a network of builders (questions, lend a hand, and encouragement), stick to the prints as designed (modifications can become never ending bunny holes). Two years and 1000hrs later it was first flight. Nothing more rewarding than that.
Here was my first flight support crew, everyone is a current Sonex builder or flyer here in Southern Indiana, just south of Indianapolis. We are hosting a Sonex Fly-In in September, join us if you can.
