Oil pressure drop, bad case half?

Oil pressure drop, bad case half???

Upon motoring my new built engine with the starter, no prop, or spark plugs inserted, my oil pressure immediately rose to 80 psi and then dropped to 0 psi while still motoring. Tried three times with the same result. No exterior oil leaks noted.Could this indicate that I have one of those case halves that had bad machine work resulting in open oil pressure galleys. If this is indicative of a bad case half I would like to know now before I proceed any further.

Bummer Sherm. I am about to start my build and will inspect the case carefully. The SB does list the procedure, and suspected date range.

For an assembled engine you need to pull a head and one cylinder. Good luck!

Just my two cents, but are you sure the oil pump is still primed? I had to prime it again after the first spin to get oil pressure to stay up.

Are you sure the gage or sensor didn’t go bad? I had the oil pressure sensor fail on my aerovee during ground running testing. Check it with a manual gage before tearing the engine enables back down. I also second the suggestion to reprime.

I only use my manual gauge. I’m on my 3rd electronic and they have all been inaccurate. Put in a manual that only cost under $30,be assured you have the right oil pressure
