Spent last month in AZ to avoid the winter doldrums of N. Idaho. My Waiex is sitting at 1257 hrs and the Camit is just over 800 hours. Running perfect, leak down tests very good, oil use between 25 hr changes averages 8 oz. Extremely happy with the engine. That said, it appears that Kevin in UK is only one servicing cylinders, new pistons, rings, valves, seats, etc. All the things needed for a 1000 top end job. Getting ahold of the guy is like searching for Moses. Emailed…nothing. Tried again and out of town and would get back. Nothing! Being in sales my whole life I find it infuriating to chase folks to take my money. Even if it’s all done a guy still has an Orphan engine no different than many Jab owners. Yesterday I visited Casey and talked conversion of my Waiex when the time comes. I have great faith in the design elements of his conversion kit combined with the Sonex horizontal cowl and engine mount for the legacy model such as mine. A bit of fiberglass work to get the channels for the oil cooler and radiator but not hard. Very seriously thinking this is going to be the direction to go? I’ve got my hands full when I get back with another Waiex I purchased that needs completed. Not thrilled with Turbo AeroVee but I’m certain I can make it all work. I’m a pretty decent tinkerer. Meanwhile I’ll keep putting hours on my Camit powered Waiex and by time it times out I’ll have my mind made up.
