Battery Master Relay (solenoid)

Pardon my ignorance but I have a question about the battery continuous solenoid. While prepping for my upcoming first flight I noticed that the solenoid is hot to the touch after about 5 minutes of turning on the master switch. None of the surrounding wires or components are warm, only the solenoid which gets very warm/hot. Is this normal? I ordered a new solenoid from ACS and it does the same thing…hot to the touch after about 5 minutes. Any words of wisdom out there?

A continuous duty solenoid is intended for exactly that - continuous duty. A starter solenoid is intended for short duration use.
Your master solenoid is typically continuous duty, so if yours is hot check to see what you installed.

Most of them draw about an amp. This is at least 12W of power dissipation. That will cause some heat.
