Ok, I’m in a world of hurt. I believe I need a new case. Do we know who the machine shop was that was providing the AeroVee cases? I’d like to just do it myself since I have access to a Bridgeport and several years of amateur machining experience, but I don’t have any engine machining experience and would really like to let the pros do it.
I offered my thoughts on the oil relief plunger thread, but here are my thoughts on the case.
I think there are a few machining operations that are common with the dune buggy world. This would include machining clearance for the rods on a stroker crank, and boring for larger cylinders. Heck you can probably buy a case with that done.
Next you need to pull the galley plug where the oil restrictor for the front bearing is. Once that has been removed, you tap the galley and put an NPT plug in it.
Finally, and I’m not sure this is required, you may need to open up the front crank bore to fit the prop hub. I think I remember a guy who wanted an aluminum case and had that done.
Yes, these are all standard operations. Several options can offer the boring operations for the 92mm cylinders sans the case savers. The pulley side is opened up slightly to accommodate the crank. There is also hole cut for the starter as well.
I reached out to Scott Casler, and he said that he’s able to supply new cases. I’m going to start with him because my time is currently tied up in the airframe.
Also, super sorry, I posted this around midnight my time. Meant to post it in part sources.
I have had good luck with Rimco Machine in California. They machined an Aluminum case I had sent there to Revmaster specs.
