Another Project - HighWing

Another nutplate option for vertical stab tip…

Found this HW builder doing a variation for fiberglass tip. He split the fiberglass for a removeable section for access.

Question for anyone about pulled rivets. One broke off a bit higher than usual. It is about the same height as the rivet head. Does that need to be drilled out and replaced? Builders choice or no go? The other finish side mandrel looks the same as all the others. Thanks.

Typically I just use an angle sander and sand down the proud mandrel. It’s easy with universal head rivets. Usually the problem children are the flush rivets in the leading edge, and those are harder to sand down without getting the wing. What I do is take a thin scrap of aluminum with a rivet head sized hole, tape it to the surface to protect it, and sand away.

Edit: If it’s not proud of the rivet head, let it go. It’s fine.

Thanks – it is barely proud of the rivet head. I like the idea with the scrap aluminum.
